Santorini, Greece: Sites

Most sites in Santorini center around the fantastic views from it's
cliff side towns. Also, the sunset from many of these towns are great.
Oia

Santorini, Greece: Food

First night in Santorini I went to see the sunset in Oia with Akr, my new Japanese friend I met at my hostel. We grabbed dinner in the town of Fira. I had Moussaka and Akr had the grillled fish, we shared a Greek salad. I like how they do salads in Greece, you dress it with olive oil and vinegar to your tastes.
One day I went to the Santo Winery for a tour and wine tasting. The buy grapes from the 23 vineyards on Santorini. It's a decent size operation and they export around the world but the real highlight is the view from their cafe where you taste the wines.
The two winners from the tasting were the Assyrtico, it's a dry white with citrus and mineral notes, light and refreshing. Visanto a dessert wine with flavors of raisin, honey and spices. It's now my second favorite dessert wine behind Hungarian Tokaji.

Split, Croatia: Food

I had a short time in Split but I ate well with help from the receptionist at my hostel. She introduced me to ćevapčići. It's a Bosnian fast food but you can find it at every fast food stand. It's a fluffy pita bread filled with onions, beef sausage links, creme fresh or harrisa sauce. I had it twice. Simple cheap and good.
Another cheap option in Split is Fife. Simple dishes and good portions. I had the the grilled fresh fish with roasted vegetables. Here was a Japanese guy seated across from me I felt he was just thinking "What is this guy doing? Has he every eaten a fish before?". Let's just say I need to work on my filleting skills.
For breakfast I went to the green market and got a pastry with egg inside it and bought an apple from a fruit stand. I ate sitting on the palace ruins by the golden gate.

Split, Croatia: Sites

Split used to be part of the Roman Empire and the city has grown out
from the old palace. The only way to see the western wall of the place
is to go into people's homes and restaurants because the city was
expanded by just adding three walls onto the existing palace wall.
People still live within and attached to the palace.

Salzburg, Austria: Food

First night in Salzburg my local guide Rafael took me to Augustiner
Braustaubl beer garden where we had a liter of beer.

Salzburg, Austria: Sites (part 1)

Immediately upon arriving in Salzburg you notice the beautiful
mountains and the fortress up on the hill.

Salzburg, Austria: Sites (part 2)

The Hohensalzburg Fortress is really old and has great views of the city.
